Did Christmas sneak up on you just like it did with me? Are you, on this last day before Christmas, still not feeling the holiday spirit? If so, fear no more, I’ll help you in your last desperate attempts to get in the mood. (and in doing so I will hopefully feel the Christmas too).
So what can one do?
Accept that you might not be feeling it 100 % this year but don’t look at it as a lost cause, view it as a challenge that you’re happy to accept.
Get turned with all the Christmas songs you can think of. Let the melody and lyrics get stuck in your head and embrace it.
1. All I Want For Christmas Is You – by Mariah Carey
2. Last Christmas – by Wham!
3. White Christmas – by Bing Crosby
4. Do They Know It’s Christmas? – by Band Aid
5. Driving Home for Christmas – by Chris Rea
Watch your favorite Christmas movies. And if you’re Ebenezer Scrooge who hates Christmas, and therefore doesn’t have any, google is your bro and will help you out. That’s a guarantee. Or I can help you.
Some of my faves:
1. Love Actually
2. The Polar Express
3. Home Alone
4. Die Hard (maybe not what you would typically think of but it’s awesome and it totally counts)
If you haven’t done so already, decorate your house/apartment/room. Get some cute Christmas lights, some small angels, Santa Clauses, elves – whatever you can think of that reminds you of Christmas when looking at it.
Make a mother effing gingerbread house. I made one for the first time this year and let me tell you, it definitely helped me a lot with my lack of spirit. And if you don’t like ginger bread houses you can bake other stuff too. Invite your family or friends over to bake and decorate cookies together. It’s so much fun and you get to eat cookies so it’s a win-win situation.
Light a bunch of candles. Candles aren’t particularly christmassy, but they always help set the mood. It’s so cozy, and especially in this cold and dark winter time everyone can use a little bit of light and coziness.
Put up a tree! If you don’t have room for a giant one, even a small one will do the trick if you just decorate it. Picking up the pine needles afterwards will be totally worth it I promise.
Write Christmas cards. This is something I personally love to do. Put your thoughts and greetings down onto a cute card, mail it and imagine the face of the person receiving it. Everyone loves knowing they’re thought of, so don’t hold back! Send as many as you want and spread a little joy.
I think those were all of my tips and tricks. Do you have another brilliant tip that I didn’t think of? Please be sure to let me know!
And no matter how you’re gonna spend this Christmas I hope you’ll have a great time.
Merry Christmas everyone!
